Hearts & Hands Vocational Institute was created out of a need to address the unemployment challenge that was rampant among young people, many of whom had already dropped out of the education system. These were mainly young wives and mothers lacking formal education to be absorbed in the formal job market. The best ways to equip them with vocational skills and knowledge. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a sufficient vocational school to respond to the needs of these people. Therefore, Heart and Hands Foundation saw it fit to start its own vocational skills, and we can say it was a wise decision to take.

The Institute offers hands-on and job-creating courses like tailoring, fashion and design, hairdressing, carpentry and joinery, welding and metal fabrication, building and concrete practice, computer studies, automechanics, ICT, driving and electrical installation.

The vocational institute is a foot in the right direction for the organisation as it produces graduates who can start up income-generating activities to create jobs for the communities in which they live.

The organization has, over the years, trained peer educators and equipped them with special skills in HIV prevention, caregiving, youth development, family life education, and child rights and protection. This has contributed towards the improvement of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) status among the youth by providing comprehensive information, skills, counselling and services within an adoptive environment.
