Heart and Hands Foundation (HHF) as an organisation is truly a gift from God in which His kindness, purpose, will and love for humanity manifests. The journey of Heart and Hands Foundation from when it was started in 2016 has been a humble one and a blessed one. It all started from a vision that was born and nurtured by a young and focused Dr. Abel Tindao in Kyenjojo, a rural town in Western Uganda.

Dr. Tindao was born in a God-fearing Christian family and raised in a Christian setting with uncompromised Christian values. At the age of 15 years, Dr Tindao was called to serve the Lord as a church youth leader. In the church, he held different management positions – diligently and unrelentingly serving with vigour and love. His satisfying work with the church exposed him to opportunities to work with different civil society organisations as a volunteer. He grew up having a heart for serving the disadvantaged communities, showing and sharing love, compassion, tolerance, care, honesty, service and acceptance.

Having worked with young people and communities that were facing hardships like poverty, diseases and illiteracy, Dr Tindao discovered that the biggest problem challenging these communities was a poor MINDSET at all levels of the community. He then developed a vision of getting his communities and country to work on and improve their mindset. To achieve this, he needed a platform from which he would start to preach the gospel of mindset change to his people in not only in Kyenjojo but Uganda at large. That way, Heart and Hands Foundation was born.

Heart and Hands Foundation was formed to support, empower and develop communities socially, spiritually and economically. The organisation targets mainly the young people, women/widows and fathers. Since its inception, Heart and Hands Foundation has helped thousands of young people to realise their potential, dreams and abilities. The Foundation has trained and supported fathers to know and play their roles as God designed it.

The beneficiaries are now working as change agents in their respective communities. Despite this progress and positive results achieved over the years, Heart and Hands Foundation is committed to continue working on its objectives to help all realise their dreams and live a better life fuelled by Christian values.

MILESTONES

Heart and Hands Foundation looks back at the journey it has walked right from inception with pride and gladness. It is heartwarming to see that for more than a decade we are here continuing to touch and positively change the lives of very many people. We stand tall and firm and say it has been God who bestowed us with this gift. We are only mere mortals who are implementing His wish. Along the way, we have built a rich history; a history that is filled with beautiful stories, conquests, triumphs, and changed mindsets. We have built and continue to build a foundation for HHF to benefit many generations to come. Our rock-solid faith tells us that we are destined for greatness for which we will forever glorify God.

Mindset change

From the beginning, we understood that changing the mindset of community members was the first step we should take, and we did just that and still doing it. It wasn’t an easy thing to do, but the results started showing each passing time we engaged the communities. To start seeing results, we created partnerships with churches, schools, village groups, and community leaders. Churches and community leaders helped us to identify youths we would train as change agents and peer educators. We packaged special messages for the communities and rolled out programmes that addressed spiritual, economic and social challenges.

Building institutional capacity

Heart and Hands Foundation has grown by leaps and bounds, and that is because we understand how important this organisation is to the community, especially to people who depend on it and those whose lives it has touched and empowered. We also understand that for better results, we have to grow it as an institution. This has been achieved by putting in place stringent governance structures and adherence to the best governance principles.

From a humble background, and with the blessings of God, we have managed to build the capacity of the organization’s founders, leaders and all those who have associated with it. Again, from a dream born and implemented by one person, Dr Abel Tindao, Heart and Hands Foundation is proudly managed by an able Board of Directors and a secretariat that ensures that there is total accountability for every penny spent and every activity conducted.

The organization conducts capacity-building seminars, workshops and trainings for staff and volunteers to equip them with the knowledge and technical know-how of how to run an ever-growing organization like Heart and Hands Foundation.
